Detention:

Import trade: calculate from the day the container discharged from the vessel or other conveyance, until the day the consignee redelivers the container to the designated location;

Export trade: calculate from the day the customer picks up the empty container, until the day the container is loaded onto the vessel. (Shut out containers don’t enjoy the free time, and charge in accordance with the actual using days. PTI fee of shut out reefer containers would be collected.)

Free time includes Saturday/Sunday/holiday.

Detention: Calculate From the next day of picking up the container, until the day the customer redelivers the container to the designated location.

Standard of Demurrage and Detention in Japan

Demurrage: Calculate from the day the container discharged from the vessel or other conveyance, until the day the consignee picks up the container.

Free time of dry container shall be counted from the day after customs clearance is obtained and shall expired on the fifth day, the first Saturday, Sunday and holidays being excluded. One additional day of free time of free time shall be allowed on cargo that requires botanical inspection at port of discharge.

Free time of container other than dry container, i.e. reefer, flat rack, open top, tank container, shall be counted from the day after customs clearance is obtained and shall expired on the third day, the first Saturday, Sunday and holidays being excluded. One additional day of free time of free time shall be allowed on cargo that requires botanical inspection at port of discharge.
